Can't download logitech.xml? Quickcamteam offline?

The Quickcamteam website appears to be down at the moment. The "Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 guide" is not working without the configuration file. Users report that they cannot download the logitech.xml file for their logitech webcam for use with uvcdynctrl.

Until the website is back online I put a copy of logitech.xml which can be downloaded from my dropbox.

logitech.xml (right button -> save as...)

Let's hope that Quickcamteam will be back online soon.

Ubuntu 11.04 Linux: Ebay listing tool! jAOLT - Turbo Lister Alternative?

The Java Auction Organisation and Listing Tool (jAOLT) allows the users to create and organize their auctions for eBay, AuVito and Hood offline as well as list the created auctions without using a website.

The "normal" way to install the software via the developer's ppa with
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:handschuh/ppa
sudo apt-get install jaolt
DOES NOT WORK! (Could not find package 'jaolt')

But there is a downloadable .deb package of jAOLT, you can get it here!

After downloading the .deb file (jaolt_0.6.7.1-1107_all.deb)
it can be installed by opening it with ubuntu software center.

Then it seems to work, but it DOES NOT. To use jAOLT with ebay it is neccessary to obtain a token from ebay. Otherwise you cannot properly add an ebay account to jAOLT.

How to obtain a token for ebay? (developer's wiki)
Go to the official ebay developer page at developer.ebay.com and create an account if you can agree the API license agreement (at the current time, you cannot delete this account)
  1. Do NOT perform a "Compatible Application Check"
  2. Go into "My Account"
  3. Create the production keys
  4. Select the "application settings" tab in the "My Account" area
  5. Select the "Production" environment and your keyset
  6. Select "User Tokens" and generate your Token
Follow each step and jAOLT will work. After getting used to its "unique" user experience it is a really an open source and free alternative to ebay's turbolister.

jAOLT 0.6.7.1
ATTENTION: It is not exactly an offline-tool. It does not work properly without internet connection.

Vienna's oldest rollercoaster - Gnome Coaster ("Zwergalbahn")

A ride on Vienna's oldest roller coaster is an absolute must for visitors to the Prater -- the nostalgic classic among the attractions is still a highlight for young and old.

On this journey over mountains and valleys, passengers are speeding through rocky landscapes, dark grottos and pass villages and rivers. The elfish garden gnomes placed along the track give the rollercoaster its second name: the "Gnome Coaster".

Besides the entertaining course, it is the charming settings that make this ride an experience for the entire family, while roller coaster fans appreciate it for its historical significance.

Started collecting LEGO Star Wars (8089 Hoth Wampa Cave, 8092 Luke's Landspeeder)

So here they are....
...my first two new LEGO Star Wars sets!

Better watch your arm, big white guy!
The set 8089 Hoth Wampa Cave was released in July/August of 2010 as part of the LEGO Classic Star Wars line.
The set consists of 297 pieces, and includes a Wampa, Luke Skywalker (Hoth), a Skeleton, and Zev Senesca minifigures. Some notable features include a Snowspeeder with a winch and an opening windshield, a snow cave with a full skeleton and spine for the Wampa to feed on, a place to hang Luke from the ceiling like in Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, and a feature allowing for the release of Luke's Lightsaber.
This set adds to the growing number of LEGO Star Wars sets based on the snow planet Hoth, and the battle that took place there.

These aren't the droids you are looking for!
The set 8092 Luke's Landspeeder is a classic Star Wars set released on January 10, 2010. The set's main feature is the small, hidden compartment at the rear of the speeder used for storing the Jedi's Lightsabers. This set is Limited Edition and a Wal-Mart exclusive in the US.
Of the six minifigures included in this set, four are exclusive.

WLAN (WiFi) USB Stick for Hackintosh? Mac OSX 10.6

I ordered the Hama Wireless LAN USB 2.0 Stick 300 Mbps from Amazon as a WLAN extension for my TV set (Samsung  LE40D550).
Hama Wireless LAN USB 2.0 Stick 300 Mbps

As I discovered the "MAC logo" on its packaging I connected the USB stick to my hackintosh.
First there was no reaction at all, the stick will not be recognized as an airport component.
MAC logo!!! Hackintosh?

On the included support cd there device drivers for MAC OSX 10.3/10.4, but those are not working under 10.6.

So I checked Hama's website and downloaded the MAC OSX 10.5/10.6 driver fome here.

After installing the driver I had to reboot my machine. After the reboot I re-connected the USB-stick. This will open the RALINK Wireless Utility.
Installation is now complete.
If you want to save your settings, you will have to add a profile in the "profile-tab".

After installing the Ralink Wireless Utility shut down time increased by 15 seconds.

I don't know if it is working under 10.7 Lion as well.

Vienna's largest rollercoaster "Super 8"

This steel roller coaster from Pinfari at Wiener Prater amusement park is named after its figure-eight layout.

The largest rollercoaster in Vienna's Prater, next to the famous Riesenrad! With neck breaking speed the train shoots down towards the Riesenrad to rise again. We strongly recommend you to take in the great view of the Prater while riding...:-)

Lightweight Portable Security - "US Air Force (Army) Linux" create your own USB drive

Lightweight Portable Security (LPS) creates a secure end node from trusted media on almost any Intel-based computer (PC or Mac). LPS boots a thin Linux operating system from a CD or USB flash stick without mounting a local hard drive. Administrator privileges are not required; nothing is installed. The ATSPI Technology Office created the LPS family to address particular use cases. LPS-Public is a safer, general-purpose solution for using web-based applications. The accredited LPS-Remote Access is only for accessing your organization's private network.

Download the LPS 1.2.2 deluxe ISO from here. Then put it on an USB thumbdrive (1 GB should do it!) with Unetbootin. Ubuntu users will find it in the distribution's repositories.

sudo apt-get install unetbootin

Windows and Mac OSX users will find it here! Resulting USB drives are bootable only on PCs (not on Apple Macs!).

Open the downloaded .ISO file (LPS-1.2.2_public_deluxe.iso) with Unetbootin.

Be sure your USB drive is selected before hitting the OK button.

Shutdown your computer and boot from your USB thumbdrive. On my Acer Travelmate Timeline X 8172 Z I have just to hit F12 key during POST.
WiFi connections is established without any problems.  Broadcom  BCM43225 802.11b/g/n wlan chip is well supported.

Have fun with Leightweight Portable Security.
